Episode 114- The Sting (1973)
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
Wednesday Jun 15, 2022
Following the murder of a mutual friend, aspiring con man Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford) teams up with old pro Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) to take revenge on the ruthless crime boss responsible, Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). Hooker and Gondorff set about implementing an elaborate scheme, one so crafty that Lonnegan won't even know he's been swindled. As their big con unfolds, however, things don't go according to plan, requiring some last-minute improvisation by the undaunted duo.
Host Jack has hit a big time score with this 7 Academy Award winning film! It's our "Con Artist" genre with 1973's "The Sting" for Episode 114. The boys discuss the fabulous costuming, set design and the overall delicate balance that the cast brings to this film. It's a first time watch for Host Drew, but Nathan and Jack wont hold that against him. From the subtle comedy to the impact that this film paved way for future heist and con-artist movies, "The Sting" is one that still stands the test of time. Ya follow?

As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued, and that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens.
It's another episode where we gush over the talent and the genius that is John Carpenter folks! For our "Satire" genre in Episode 113 we discuss the cult-classic, 1988's "They Live"! This is Nathan's first watch and yet another viewing for Jack and Drew. The boys discuss the symbolism within the film, how it still applies to today's world and things even get a little political. But all in all we have a good time discussing this poignant film and all it has to offer.

Episode 112- Lords of Dogtown (2005)
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Wednesday May 18, 2022
A drought in 1970s Southern California has an unexpected side effect: as people empty their swimming pools, a group of teen surfers from the Dogtown area of Venice Beach move in with skateboards, and a new sport is born. Based on a true story, this film follows "Z-Boys" skate team members Stacy Peralta (John Robinson), Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) and Jay Adams (Emile Hirsch), plus manager Skip Engblom (Heath Ledger), as their fearless "pool surfing" leads to fame, fortune -- and misfortune.
Nathan is BACK! Whew! Nathan brings us his "Surfer" genre with 2005's Biographical drama Lords of Dogtown. The boys look back on their own experiences or non-experiences with surfing and skateboarding alike while reviewing this film. The non-pragmatical elements of the film where we see the real life instances of these young men is often under appreciated when you think about the world of skating today. The movie may not be everyone's cup of tea, but one can always appreciate a great story.
